What to have ready before your build

Day zero is the day we receive everything on this list. Have it ready and a landing page is live in 2 to 3 days, a multi-page site in 4 to 5. Each item says what we need, the format, why it matters, and what to do if you do not have it.

PDF version to follow. This page prints cleanly in the meantime.

Needed on day zero

7 items. The build cannot start without them.

  1. 2

    A page list

    Needed on day zero
    What we need
Every page you want, with one line on what each is for. Home, services, about and contact are the usual four; add what your business needs.
    Format
A short list in an email or a document. Names and one-line purposes are enough.
    Why it matters
The page list is the scope. It is confirmed in writing on day zero and it is what the timeline is built on. Pages added later are quoted and scheduled after launch.
If you do not have this
Look at the packages page for typical page lists, or tell us what you sell and who buys it and we propose one with the quote.
  2. 3

    Copy for every page

    Needed on day zero
    What we need
The words for each page on the list: headings, paragraphs, service descriptions, your story, calls to action. Also your tagline if you have one.
    Format
A document per page, or one document with a heading per page. Plain text or Google Docs. Not a PDF, and not inside a design mockup.
    Why it matters
Copy is the single biggest cause of delay on website projects. With it on day zero, a multi-page site launches on day 5. Without it, nothing starts.
If you do not have this
Use the content writing service. You fill in a short brief instead, and we write every page. It adds 1 to 2 days to the build.
  3. 4

    Images

    Needed on day zero
    What we need
Photos of your business, team, premises, products or work. Any illustrations or graphics you already use.
    Format
JPEG or PNG at the highest resolution you have, ideally over 2000px on the long side. Do not resize or compress them; we do that. Name the files so we know what they show.
    Why it matters
Real photos of your business build more trust than any stock image. They also need to be optimised and given alt text, which happens on day 3.
If you do not have this
We use licensed stock images that fit the design direction and say so in the handover. A short photo session before the build is worth arranging if you can.
  4. 5

    Contact details

    Needed on day zero
    What we need
The email address enquiries should go to, the WhatsApp number to link, the phone number to show, and your address if you want one displayed.
    Format
Written out exactly as they should appear on the site, including the country code on phone numbers.
    Why it matters
Forms and WhatsApp links are wired on day 3 and tested end to end. A wrong digit means enquiries go nowhere, and that is the one bug nobody notices until a customer complains.
If you do not have this
At minimum we need one email address. Everything else is optional, but a WhatsApp number is strongly recommended for businesses in Sri Lanka.
  5. 6

    Domain access

    Needed on day zero
    What we need
Login access to wherever your domain is registered, or the ability to change its DNS records.
    Format
Registrar name and a login, or a delegated access invitation. If a previous developer holds it, ask them for access before day zero.
    Why it matters
The domain is connected on day 0 so that launch on day 5 is a switch, not a scramble. Chasing a registrar login on launch day is the most common reason a launch slips.
If you do not have this
If you have no domain, we help you register one at kickoff in your own name. If someone else holds yours and will not release it, tell us and we will advise.
  6. 7

    Google account access

    Needed on day zero
    What we need
The Google account that should own Search Console and Analytics. If you already have either set up, admin access to them.
    Format
The email address of the Google account. We send an access request to it.
    Why it matters
Both are set up in your account on day 3 so you own the data. Setting them up in ours and transferring later is slower and messier.
If you do not have this
Create a free Google account for the business before day zero. It takes five minutes and we walk you through it at kickoff if needed.

Good to have

3 items. The build runs without them, and they make the site better.

  1. 8

    Social media links

    Optional
    What we need
The full URLs of any profiles you want linked: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube.
    Format
The links themselves, copied from the browser.
    Why it matters
They go in the footer and in the structured data that tells search engines and AI assistants which profiles belong to your business.
If you do not have this
Skip it. Placeholder icons are not shown; the footer simply lists the profiles you have.
  2. 9

    Testimonials and proof

    Optional
    What we need
Customer quotes, review links, client logos, awards, certifications, numbers you are proud of.
    Format
Quotes with the person's name and business, and their permission to use them. Logos as SVG or PNG. Links to review profiles.
    Why it matters
Proof is what turns a visitor into an enquiry. A real quote with a name beats any amount of well-written copy about yourself.
If you do not have this
Launch without them and add them later; the design leaves room. Or ask three recent customers this week. Most say yes.

Have most of it?

That is enough to get a quote and a start date. Send what you have and we tell you exactly what is missing.
